Usenet Gems

I wonder sometimes why I still lurk on places like sci.space.policy. Then I see a gem like this one (in a thread about the Lunar Lander Concept Studies that NASA solicited recently) and remember why it's all worth it...

> NASA is asking for studies.

... in order to disregard them and continue with
their brilliant in-house developed concept.
Or is Griffin leaving the office any soon?

To be a bit more fair though, Griffin probably wouldn't disregard them completely...He'd only wait until they were showing real promise, then have Scotty transfer them to MSFC. Of course at that point, the steely-eyed-missle-men there (who've been building rockets since back when most of you were in diapers, donchaknow) would likely discover that those alt.spacers didn't know what they're talking about, and what the lander really needs to be cost effective is some Shuttle Derived Hardware. Political realities and all that.
